Software Structure and Access

The technically intricate modules (such as the basic blast design editor) are standalone programs. The tools are able to run independently of other services such as central databases, for example to be working on laptops away from the office. However, certain functions, such as month end costing and reporting are better established at a central database, and can be made available to an Internet browser.

For example, a manager might use Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, to check out http://www.blastcentral.com/Reports/BlastSummary.asp?Year=2009&Month=1 to see an up to the minute summary of blasting activity. An engineer on the other hand may work independently of the central database and upload designs on a regular basis.

The software is able to work with any number of "Blast Central" databases, so the installed configuration is fully customizable. But typical use will prefer a central master databse with one or more databases on an engineer's workstation or laptop.
